My Manifesto (The Positive Youth Agenda) |
||
Below are a set of aims I wish to achieve during my time in office.
1) Improve Communications This means better connection between youths and the UKYP through me and the deputy MYP. It includes informing young people about opportunities on offer, and telling you more about what the UKYP are doing for you. We want you to know the hard work we're doing for the young public! 2) Bucks Young Person's Card Ever heard of the NUS Extra Student Card? You know, the card that A Level students get that offers retail and leisure discount and could act as an ID? Every teenager likes discounts...well everyone does! In Milton Keynes and East Sussex, there are All-In-1 Card schemes that offers retail discount, restaurant discounts, travel discounts etc. I would like to build on the Bucks Citizen Card currently available to 16-17 year olds, allowing those eligible a £1 single bus fare discount, to a Bucks Student Card that is available to young people aged 11-18, that offers plenty more. Progress is on it's way, the County Council has asked for a full proposal outlining different ways to deliver a new scheme, that will be submited by November 2011. 3) Improving accessibility work experience opportunities The aim of this campaign is to get you better prepared for the future, easier. It is difficult on my part to force employers to provide more work experience, apprenticeship and internship placements for young people. However, accessibility of such opportunities can be provided through innovative ways, and one way of doing so is...by blogging! The big idea is to get young people who have had work experience placements to write about it (many of you already do, thanks to a lovely diary that schools usually give you to log your experiences), collate the entries, and then publish them on a dedicated website. This would be available for all other young people to access to have a read about a career of their particular interest through the eyes of a young person. 4) Political Education The aim of this campaign is to raise awareness of politics among young people locally, and also to contribute towards the UKYP national campaign of making Politicsl Education compulsary throughout the UK. This is a big, big issue, so small, small steps are required to progress this further. I will create lesson plans of different political themes that you can access (including the Theory of Politics; Branches of Government; Party Politics; and Political Participation) and deliver in schools as lessons or in events as workshops. Workshops will be as fun and as engaging as possible to make politics more accessible - making it something that you can relate to. What else am I currently doing now? I attend regular meetings locally and regionally. I've also attended this year's Annual Sitting in Leeds and the House of Commons debate. I am writing emails to contacts to promote my campaigns and also try to reach out to young people. I am also encouraging people to voice their concerns about the Government's HS2 proposals that runs through the Chiltern area. I also work with various youth organisations to further the positive youth agenda. I will also be visiting various schools to discuss UKYP. If you would like me to come to your school to give a talk during assembly or for a lesson, please feel free to contact me! Have any suggestions or views? Want more information? Contact me now! |
